Disaster-proof challenge

In this week’s meeting, our club took on the challenge of designing technologies that could reduce the impact of natural disasters. We split into teams and brainstormed solutions to real-world problems caused by floods, earthquakes, and fires. Each group was asked to identify a problem, define the constraints, and finally design a system that could withstand unpredictable conditions.

We came up with smart bracelets that help locate people trapped under rubble, water purification systems that provide clean water in post-flood environments, and sensor-based alerts for early fire detection.

After designing, each group presented its project, explaining the science and reasoning behind their choices, from materials that could endure high temperatures to circuits that would remain functional even when communication lines are down. We ended with a discussion on engineering’s role in addressing urgent, real-world challenges.
